<p>EAmom and I have just decided to attend parent's weekend since D wants us to attend her sorority's Parents Cocktail that we missed last year.</p>
<p>The main downtown hotels are obviously sold out but I found availability at The Fairfield by Marriott at Columbiana Mall as well as two properties that are closer in, the Embassy Suites and Homewood Suites at Greystone (near the zoo) which are both only about 2 miles away.</p>
<p>Does anyone have any experience with either of these two? I read mixed reviews of the Embassy Suites which ranged from very nice to awful, dirty and old. The Homewood Suites are newer and are lower in Hilton's pecking order but the rooms are $30 a night more expensive than the Embassy Suite which concerns me about the latter.</p>
<p>We stayed at the Fairfield at Columbiana during move in and our room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was included and generally we were very satisfied with the value. We would have booked there again for parents weekend but we found a cheaper rate at the Hilton Garden Inn and elected to go there. We were down for a day visit with our daughter a couple of weeks ago and did a quick drive by of a number of properties for future reference and the Homewood Suites caught our eye as being new and shiny looking on the outside. The Harbison location is convenient for us since it is on our way and the drive into campus is easy.</p>
<p>We are only staying one night for parents weekend though and that also limited our choices since many properties required a two night minimum.</p>
