Parents Weekend Hotels

I procrastinated too long and now all the New Haven hotels within walking distance seem to be booked. I guess I could rent a car at the train station--anyone have recommendations for/experience with accommodations close to New Haven?

Candlewood Suites at 1151 E Main Street, Meriden CT is a reasonable option perhaps? Affordable.....especially booking online with a AAA rate....about a 15 to 20 min drive into New Haven.....

LaQuinta is next door to Ikea in New Haven.....on Sargent Drive.... basic hotel but closer....than Candlewood Suites....

You might also call the New Haven hotels and ask to be put on their lists in case anyone cancels. We lucked out D's freshman year and there was a cancellation at the Marriott Courtyard, which is now our hotel of choice. We don't have to drive at all once we're ensconced there.

If you have a car its no big deal. I have never stayed on-campus for Parent's Weekend and have never had a problem. There are a number of nice hotels in Shelton, which is off to the northwest about 15-20 minutes, and they are a lot cheaper than the hotels in town. There are quite a few available up and down I-95 and the Post Road as well.

Once I get in town I park the car in a garage and hoof it. What you saved on your hotel will more than cover the parking charge. Oh yes, I drive out to the Yale Bowl for the football game and parking out there is free.

Try Wallingford, about 20 miles away.
