Parents weekend in October

My son will be a freshman in the fall. We live in California so we were thinking of coming out for the parents weekend in October. How popular is parents weekend? Do a lot of the freshman parents come out for it? Do parents attend a lot of the listed activities?

Thanks for any help.

My son will be a sophomore this year, and we live in CT. We did not go for parents weekend, we just chose another weekend in the fall to visit. It didn’t bother him a bit.

When we visited in the spring, we were able to stay at the hotel on campus, which is great. It fills up really quickly especially on football weekends.

My D will be a sophomore in the fall as well. We’re from NY. She told us not to come, but then regretted it. She told us a lot of parents attend.

Any time is a good time. Parents Weekend just has some activities geared for family. But if u just wanna visit and stop by, any time is a great time.

dd is a soph…we went to parents weekend last year, not impressed with the attendance and won’t go again. Coming from a school where Parents weekend was huge, we made it a big deal, made her brothers go (one had to miss a tourney game) because she wasn’t coming home until early Nov for a visit. Because it’s 4 weeks into the quarter, not a home game weekend and a month before TurkeyDay, a huge chunk of students go home. We weren’t staying thru dinner and left her in tears as no one there to do anything with and our visit had exacerbated her homesickness. Home game weekends are so crazy, it’s hard to have parents and family activities also; but definitely more fun. Campus was dead, iffy weather also did not help improve the mood…activities nice but we preferred to walk around and spend time together rather than pay to watch the game on tv, tour, listen to speakers, etc. We are so close we would not spend the night. Don’t get me wrong, we enjoyed our visit…just should have planned for another date. The Blackwell on campus is very nice.

We live about a 2 hour drive from campus and really have not visited except for an hour a two before or after we pick him up or drop him off. He is always happy to take us around but usually has work to do since the quarter system seems to mean having some test or paper due every week. I would think that parents weekend would be nice since there’d be planned activities and your kid would not have to play tour guide as much.
