Just wondering if I am the only person anxiously awaiting parents weekend. I can’t wait to see my kid. I think I am looking forward to this more that kids look forward to Christmas.
I was able to see my DD this past weekend and yes, I did look forward to it. I really just wanted to see her in person and confirm that all was ok. Next up though is Parent’s Weekend on October 14:)
We would love to if we didn’t have to change plane twice and get a rental car to get there. Too much time, money and effort to see her between opening weekend and thanksgiving. We have been texting heavily so there isn’t anything I am curious to hear from her in person.
Maybe next year probably, instead of accompanying her in the opening weekend then.
While I’m always happy to see my kids, what I really love about Parents’ Weekend is the chance to talk directly with their advisors and all their teachers. I get WAY more information about what my kids are doing in their classes from those conversations than I could ever get from my kids themselves.
I can’t wait! I’m starting the cookie and brownie baking tonight.
Anyone that knows me will tell you I am definitely not the emotional, touchy-feely type but I can’t wait to put my hand on him. I am looking forward to meeting with teacher and advisors to see what they think. I can see that he has not turned in a couple of assignments but he seems to think he is managing his time well. But the highlight of my visit is him. I am so surprised at myself because I never thought I would get this excited!
Yes. We’ve seen him several times since he checked in…at home and away games, and we also brought him home for a weekend so that he could be master of ceremonies for his best friend’s eagle scout court of honor. So, this will not be the first time we’ve seen him, but it will be nice to meet with his advisor, hear from college counselors, go to his classes, and take him and his 2 best friends to dinner. And, little sister will be with us, so that only raises the level of anticipation.
@hellomaisy’s post reminds me of how nice it was to take students without family there for the weekend out to lunch or dinner with us. Win-Win for everyone. It was nice to meet kiddo’s friends and dorm mates and I found you learn a lot more with other people’s kids in tow.
So it seems a parent is going to take mine with her daughter for this weekend, since we are not visiting. How kind!
@queenmother so funny your words could have come from my mouth!
Groton parents’ weekend is in full swing. So is this intense thunderstorm (seriously, the clouds decide to open up now?!). I love the atmosphere of having everyone’s families on campus, and though I see my mom pretty often, I wouldn’t turn down more time with her.
Deerfied Day, not parents’ weekend, Nov 12. Can’t wait!
Last weekend was my last PW… And it was just wonderful, and I’m trying to just focus on that, rather than think of it as " my last"… I feel truly blessed for the experience that my D has had during these 4 years at her school. Looking ahead to college of course, but PW at college will be very very different than at a small prep school. Yesterday I attended “my last” field hockey game… Am really going to miss those, too!!
My kids both went to the same prep school. They are now at 2 different colleges, Junior and Freshman. PW at the colleges is so fun! Football games, dinners with the Deans, and so much more! It only gets better and better. Don’t be sad, the horizons are expanding not narrowing. AND, we get to go back to the prep school for homecoming! Doesn’t get better than this.
@cameo43 I am experiencing all my lasts of her boarding school life as well. I had not imagined how emotional it can feel. I’ve cried many more times this last few months than her entire freshman year away. Or any other year combined actually.
Bitter sweet but gearing up for college news and enjoying the rest of the years events.
