Parents Weekend

Do most freshmen parents come that weekend? Or is it just kind of if they do, they do, if not, that's cool too? I'm just curious because they were wondering if hotels jack up their prices for that weekend and whatnot. I'm also wondering, since it's Halloween weekend, I'm sure there will be "interesting" parties to attend. Haha.

hotels and airlines do jack up their prices…b/c there are more customers than beds/seats available…

i think maybe 1/4 people’s parents come…some come at their own convenience (cheaper)

So one wouldn’t be left out if their parents didn’t come that weekend? I don’t mind my parents coming, but since I’m sure that’s a weekend of parties not to be missed, I don’t wanna be stuck with my parents the whole time…

oh yeah, question, does anyone else find it exceptionally weird that they scheduled parents weekend on halloween?
like why would they do that!?

It’s nice to have your parents there, but it is not a requisite.

If they do end up coming, tell them you will hang out with them during the day, and they must leave you to yourself at night.

Halloween parties really are awesome.

We came up for our daughter’s parents weekend. It was nice for us because it was the first time we saw her in her own environment. It made us feel a lot better that she was happy. As chendrix mentioned, Halloween parties are amazing. We had dinner with our daughter, and she was back with her friends by 9-10. We didn’t see her again until next day for brunch, then we left. We took her friends without parents out to dinner and brunch. Hotels in Ithaca will be a lot more expensive, but there are some B&B around the lake that are very nice and reasonable. I would suggest for your parents to book now if they are thinking about going. They could always cancel later. For her sophomore year we went up the weekend after parents weekend to avoid the craziness.
