Parent's Weekends?

Can anyone tell me about Parent's weekends? The weekends that parents get game tickets,October 4 and 11/1? Do they have a lot of activities for parents? Do most parents attend?

thanks in advance!

suesam, Notre Dame does not do the traditional college parent's weekend fall event. Notre Dame does football and they do it well, but the emphasis is not on the visiting parents. I was told (but don't know this for a fact) that all parents are not offered the same combination of ticket options. In other words, senior parents may be offered two different game dates in comparison to freshman parents so you can't point to any one Saturday and say, this is a parent's weekend. The football weekends are festive, fun, and not to be missed, IMHO. Game day activities start early and wind down with masses in the residence halls and dinner in the dining halls. Often there are cultural events scheduled for Friday or Saturday nights, but again, these are open to the all fans and visitors on campus and not geared specifically to parents. Notre Dame's parent weekend is a special event held in February and is limited to the parents of Notre Dame juniors (called JPW for Junior Parents Weekend).

Bummer. All of my friends keep talking about going to their sons/daughters parents weekends and how much fun it is.
We are going to ND this weekend to the first game so are excited! My freshman son sounds totally exhausted and said he is excited to see us! Gave me a big list of things he needs so I guess I will go shopping today! On the list he put "sleep". It does not sound like a football weekend is going to be very restful so I think he is out of luck. Good thing he is young.

Well, I doubt your friends with kids at other schools will have MORE fun than your family at an ND football weekend. It is a unique ND experience, and as I said, very fun. very festive. ND doesn't have to do Parent Weekends in the fall because every home football game is like a homecoming/parents weekend at other schools. Have a great time!

Thanks Greta! We are really looking forward to our weekend and I think our son is as well!

If you are in South Bend this Friday night, the Glee Club will be performing their annual Fall concert in the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center, but you can also catch them in the Joyce Center before the game.

Some of the highlights for our family include: the team walk to the stadium as they leave the private team mass at the Basilica, the marching band concert on the steps of Bond Hall, trumpets in the Dome, the Drum Circle (at midnight Friday evening), the bagpipe band on God quad, steak sandwiches from the Knights of Columbus on South Quad, the Mass in our son's dorm after the game, candlelight dinner in the dining hall, and mass in the Basilica on Sunday morning. We never get to South Bend early enough to catch the Friday afternoon pep rally but it is a signature event, from what I understand.

Thanks for the links Greta! I am going to print off the 101 things to take with us to show my parents. We are taking them along and my dad is sooo excited. We will not be getting there until about 11:00 on saturday morning, unfortunately, but I am really looking forward to mass in the basilica in sunday and to showing my parents the campus.... and of course to seeing my ds!

If you plan to go to one of the Basilica masses on Sunday, go EARLY. The pews fill up very quickly and it is SRO by about 30 minutes before Mass begins.
