@woodlandsmom already did for Material Science Engineering, chances are I would graduate in 5 years with summer school. Already working at UPS
Not sure how much autonomy or creativity is possible for MD’s these days.
You can still switch majors, depending on the major. Don’t focus on med school right now. Honestly, your goals are very specific and narrow and may change. Major in what you like and what you are good at.
I understand your parents are thinking of an easily categorized “profession” but going into debt is not a good idea regardless. If your school is too expensive, maybe you could switch.
You can major in English, philosophy or anthropology for that matter and still end up doing pediatric surgery. I think you are a little ahead of yourself, but understand why and sympathize.
You seem to be accumulating some great work experiences which will help you get a job when you graduate, but hope it isn’t too stressful for you!
@KillerQueen21 its difficult to make a decision. I just wanted to attend law school and found that I hated accounting so I switched my junior year to liberal arts but I was worried that I would not get a job if I did not get into law school. But, then I decided that I could never ever do accounting even if I did not get into law school.
I had a plan A plan B and plan C because I was nerdy and OCD. I also did not want to be a burden on my parents as they were older. I was a list maker and made a list of pros and cons on each school, each option, each city (from the cost of living to how easy it was to get school loans, etc.) It sounds like you are responsible and considering all these factors. At the end of the day, you want to graduate and get a job and in some majors grad school is not necessary to do this. Good luck in your decision.
