Parents:Where would you let your child apply with these stats

Sorry for bothering you but my parents won't help at all in telling me which schools to apply to. My mom told me to apply to whatever colleges I want to. I want some safeties, matches, and reaches(not a huge reach please). I plan on applying to about 10 schools some in and out of state. I live in California and want to major in premed or prenursing if that helps.

THANKS!

Has your mom told you how much she can pay for your education? If not, you need to know that. You do not want to get into a long list of fine colleges and universities that you cannot afford to attend.

So, do you like . . . large, small, in a city, quiet, loud, frats, social secene, continue music studies, arts opportunities, financial aid needed, etc etc etc

It’s OK not to “know” all these sorts of things with a high degreee of certainty, but some thought on your part about what might appeal to you would be helpful here.

For example, do you learn better as a big fish in a little pond or do you like “hanging around with Geniuses” as my kid used to say. That is, are your more comfortable being right in the middle or would you feel better being it the top 25% or the bottom 25% academcally?

Tell us more about yourself and you’ll get better feedback.

Said another way: do some initial work and you will be amazed at how many people step up to help you.

P.S. The college board - and CC for that matter - have nifty little college search engines where you can plug in factors and it’ll spit out suggestions.

@happymomof1: She really hasn’t told me, She wants me to pay for my own education but she will pay for some of it too.

@Kei-o-lei: I have done a lot of research. I want to attend a school where there are less than 20 students to 1 professor. I don’t mind a large city from a small city. I’m going to apply EA to Whitworth because that’s my dream school but i’m not sure that I can get in with my stats. I’m thinking about applying to UC Riverside and Cal State Los Angeles.

Seems like you and she need to figure out where you stand with respect to financial aid. Bear in mind that most pre-meds do not get into any medical school, so choice of major matters in terms of other career options. Also, medical school is expensive, so minimizing undergraduate debt is important for pre-meds.

Is that 1420 out of 1600 or 2400?

If med school is in your future I suggest you save as much money on college as you can now. Knowing what your family can afford to give you is important.
