Stanford has been my dream college since I was 9. My parents couldn't care less. They think clubs and extracurricular activities don't matter, and even if they do, I can just go to a community college. How can I convince them to drive me to my clubs? Or find another way of transportation? Thanks.

Public transport?

Get new parents?

You have a bigger challenge than clubs, it sounds like your parents haven’t bought into the idea of any four year college… what about something with a more academic focus, like debate, competitive speech, science Olympiad, or math club? If you could make the case that it will improve your academics and maybe help you in the job market someday, maybe they would allow it.

When it gets down to it, you probably won’t be able to apply to most four year colleges without their approval. They either have to pay for your education or fill out financial aid information for you. I would say you need to reset your sites off a “dream” school and start looking at the statistics needed to get full ride scholarships to four year colleges if that is what you want. University of Alabama is an example of a college with great full ride scholarships to students with high stats. Start focusing on schools like that and working hard on your test scores and grades.

Why don’t you join your high school’s clubs and sports teams instead of joining private clubs?

Clubs are usually before school or after school so you don’t need transportation other than to be dropped off early or picked up late. And if that doesn’t work, maybe you can ride your bike to school. It would certainly make for an interesting essay if you had to ride to school to participate in ECs because you were so committed and had to overcome your parents objections.
