My parents claim that their calculator asks for more data then the FASFA did when my parents filled it out for my sister 2 years ago. Because of this they refuse to help me with NPC’s.
Is this true? How can I convince them to fill it out? I have already tried the argument about not wanting to apply to school I can’t afford but that just makes them raise their voices.
At first glance, it does appear to ask for more detailed financial information than the FAFSA does. But, this is a good thing, because it means your results should be more accurate. The Northwestern NPC can be completed without providing any personally identifiable information. There’s absolutely no reason to be worried about entering personal financial information and having it linked to any specific person.
If your parents won’t complete the NU net price calculator…will they be willing to complete the CSS Profile? It also, asks a LOT more questions than the FAFSA.
You won’t receive a dime of NU institutional aid without a submitted Profile.
Private universities do usually ask for more info in their financial aid process. Most schools that give the best need based aid will want the CSS profile when you actually apply for aid, and that asks for more info than the FAFSA. So if they ask for more info in the NPC than some other schools, then they will also maybe be more accurate with the result than if they just asked for similar info to the FAFSA.
Show them that colleges that meet need usually want FAFSA and the CSS profile on the school websites. Schools like Northwestern do ask for a lot of info, but they can give a lot of aid, too. They can’t get something for nothing…,
If your parents won’t fill out the NPC at Northwestern because it asks for more info, then how would you ever expect them to fill out the very detailed, many more questions found on the required CSS Profile???
NU doesn’t just use FAFSA, they use CSS Profile which will require a LOT more info.
