eadad and I recently exchanged some messages about the overnight and guest restrictions at Marquette and reminiscences he had about what it was like when he was there.
I was very surprised to read in today's Marquette Tribune that there was a brief period in the 1990s when the curfews were lifted (bet you didn't know that either, eadad!)

Yes, the kids don’t understand how many potential headaches this saves them from. They should read stories here on CC from parents of kids at other schools.

I was NOT aware of that and frankly, to say I am surprised would be an understatement…

I was about to say that happened during a period when the BB team really stunk and make a bad joke about something to take the place of BB games in the winter…then I checked and realized it was when Kevin O’Neill was actually reviving the BB team…Oh well…better that I didn’t make light of it…

Sad to say that the “all or nothing” approach was routine when it came to policy making when I was there as well. It might have worked if they had limited it to certain dorms and simply enhanced the inter-visitation hours at the rest. To go from highly restricted i-v times to full overnight privileges is a pretty big jump, even for this “child of the sixties…” :)

I think is a smart policy. By the time they move off campus as juniors, they can make those decisions. There is not much you can do, but it will be a test to see how well we raised them.
