So it looks like none of the places I'm allowed to park according to my class (Sophomore) are very convenient to the dorm I was assigned (Ram Village) or any of my classes..

I have to have my car, so I need a parking pass somewhere. If I end up with the park and ride lot, does anyone know what hours it runs?

If something come up and I need to get to my car after those hour, would I just have to walk to the lot?

Also, does anyone know how much parking tickets are?

you can walk to the lot…but you wouldn’t want to…esp. late at night. Its kinda far away. But, try to see if u can find a place to park at some apartments nearby. Just ask around, some classmates might be living in apartments and be willing to let u park there. PR Lot is okay…kinda far away but as a freshman you are not going to get a much better spot…heck even as juniors and seniors there is very limited parking at UNC

the tickets are 25 bucks i believe. and if you dont mind getting up early you can find parking spots that are all over campus, particularly around lenoir and davis lib. but i had the same problem as you my sophomore year as i was a drilling nat’l guardsmen. also, walking to a p&r lot is so inconvenient as to almost not be a possibility.

i would recommend looking around for a private parking lot. the one i ended up using was on n columbia just north of rosemary at a barber’s shop. if youre going north on columbia, away from the university, youll cross over rosemary and see it on the left, its a small white building with a gravel lot in front. the guy joe gave me a discount since he was in the 101st before he became shriveled and ancient, but it usually runs about $400 a semester. thats pricey, but if you work often it could be worth it, particularly since even the disability permits are around $200 a semester. as the previous poster said, check with friends with houses nearby, or even people in granville towers who didnt bring cars. they each get a spot which is right next to franklin and frat court and you could persuade someone to sell their permit.

It looks like the bus comes every 40 minutes, at least in the summer. Although I think I remember that number being correct for the times that I’ve been to the lot during the school year with friends who have passes there.

There are some houses on Church St and adjacent streets off Rosemary that have more spaces than residents. My S lived in a duplex that had 7 spaces for 6 residents and they leased out the other space. You might try looking on Craigslist for any available spaces nearby.
