Parking On Campus

Do any of you know how many and where the parking garages are on campus? Son is taking car up there this year and I was wondering if it's hard to get a parking permit and if the whole thing is going to be a hassle.

the whole thing is going to be a hassle. getting a permit isn't, but students are only eligible for C parking permits, so they can park at the ross-ade parking lot, and a couple others scattered on campus, but you can never find spots in those lots. Here's a parking map, if you're interested. http://www.purdue.edu/parking/pdf/Parking_Map_05.pdf

I'd say take the bus if he can. I'm living in lafayette next spring (on coop for the fall), and the bronze loop has a stop really close to the house, so that's much easier than driving and having no place to park or parking at ross-ade, granted there is a shuttle from the stadium to various places on campus. plus driving on and around campus kinda sucks, because people don't care and are just irresponsible. plus there are jaywalking pedestrians everywhere.

How about motorcycles, any restrictions on them or difficulties parking them?

Thanks for the input; we just got back today. They can park at the dorms but doesn't look like any covered parking for students that we were hoping for. I was just wondering how the cars fare in bad weather up there.

As for motorcycles, I didn't see any up there.

your kid won't get a parking garage pass unless he's working something like 30 hours with the university and a part time student as well.

no restrictions on motorcycles. in fact, when i was at tarkington, some of the guys would just park them next to the bike racks and never ran into trouble with the university.
