We are attending Parents Weekend, and there are some events before the game, like a pregame lunch and a party on Friday night.

Since there are lots of restrictions on parking on Gameday, and may even begin as early as Friday night, we want to make sure we park for these events in a place we will not be towed.

We are from New Orleans, and know far too well about tow away zones and their high fees.

I know everyone wants to save a buck, but be warned, it’s better to pay 20 bucks to park than get a 150 buck tow fee. Been there, done that.

So, I usually park in one of the pay lots when I go to campus, the three buck ones, and I’m wondering if those will be open for parking Parents Weekend, or if those become reserved on Game Day and special event days. I’m fine with paying more than three bucks to park there. I just want to know if I can park there without a reservation or season pass.

I also saw mention of the soccer lot parking, but there was also mention of a season parking pass for that, so I don’t know if you can park there if you’re only attending one game.

I’m hoping there will be shuttles available from the various pay lots.

Any help from current students, parents, alumni, would be most appreciated!

Thanks!

There are shuttles for parking lots.

As for parking…

The $3 pay lot should be open, but may fill early. Of course, if you use your car, you’ll lose your spot and have to find another spot.

Here’s parking info…and yes, parking restirictions begin on Friday during home game weekends because of the arrival of tailgaters.

If you’ve never been to a Bama home game, it’s amazing. The tailgaters are unbelievable. Nearly every square inch of grass area on campus and neighboring churches, etc, are covered with tailgaters. These people arrive on Friday and leave on Sunday.

Montegut…this may interest you for Parents Weekend…

10:00am

St. Francis Catholic Church Continental Breakfast
Students and families are invited to join the St. Francis community in their Social Hall for a casual continental breakfast between the 9:00am and 11:00am masses.

THanks, mom. We do intend to attend the St. Francis event as well. We’ve enjoyed attending mass there every Sunday we’re in Ttown.

Will there be parking problems to attend mass on Sunday, since you say tailgaters don’t leave until Sunday?

Also, do the taxis run on gameday weekends? What taxi services the campus area?

I’m sure there will be higher rates during gameday, as there is during Mardi Gras, but hoping there are at least cabs available in case we want to run back to the hotel to freshen up before the game.

Montegut, I do not know the number of the taxi, but my husband and I used Tipsy Taxi when we were moving d in. The guy was great and I would definately recommend him!

Thanks, John. I’ll look them up. So glad y’all are coming down for Parents Weekend. I know you’re coming from a long way away, but I know the males in the family, and maybe the girls, too, are really looking forward to seeing some awesome college football!

Yes, we are very excited to be coming down for the football game. Son and husband are crazy excited. Can’t wait to see you, we will definately have to make arrangements to meet up. We are staying all the way in Birmingham at the Hoover Hyatt, but plan to be down in T-town for all of the BBQs and Tailgating Parties. Can’t wait. :)

Hi, John. Can’t find Tipsy Taxi. How did you find them? Did you get their number from the university, or did you just flag them down? I got some numbers from our hotel: Radio, Sterling Limo, and Bama Taxi. The hotel also said that shuttles come around to the hotels with phone numbers for to take the shuttle from the hotel to the game on game days for a fee. We may look into this for the game, but still need to get a ride to the parents activities on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Any ideas on what department at the university I can call for taxi info, numbers?

we stayed at the microtel and that is the taxi that the hotel called for us. he gave us his number and we just kept calling him back. he was extremely prompt and very nice to drive around with. i had his phone number in my purse, but through it away a few days ago thinking i would not need it anymore.

as soon as i typed the above, i thought about checking the phone. the number is 205-799-5542. :)

Will there be parking problems to attend mass on Sunday, since you say tailgaters don’t leave until Sunday?

I don’t remember there being parking problems on Sunday since I don’t think St. Francis allows parking there during Masses.

Thanks so much, John. Got him on the phone. Very nice guy. We were also looking for a taxi to get the kids to the Amtrak station if they want to get home at times other than breaks, and were looking for a reliable service. There used to be a taxi service to nearby businesses, but they went out of business, so it’s good to have a recommendation of a reliable and friendly service. We understand we don’t get door to door service on gameday weekend from anybody, and we don’t mind walking from as close as we can get, but I wanted to make sure there were no contracts in place as to who can provide taxi service on special event days. I know this may sound silly to most of you, but where I’m from, New Orleans, there are lots of restrictions on special event days, like Mardi Gras, and this sounds as close to Mardi Gras as a college campus can get.

And thanks, mom, for the heads up on St. Francis parking. In New Orleans, a lot of the churches use parking for fund raising during Mardi Gras, so I didn’t know if the church would be full of RVs or not.

We are excited to see the tailgating, too, especially if they’re cooking some neat food.

glad the number worked. we really liked him. he dropped us off at some fun spots on friday night – i just don’t remember any of the names. ;-)

Looking at the links m2ck provided, it looks like parking increased to $20, though the privately-run lots may cost less and there is free parking downtown. Depending on how early you arrive for the game, you may be able to get a space in one of the closer lots.

Any idea on if there is going to be a CC meetup during family weekend?

Any idea on if there is going to be a CC meetup during family weekend?

There should be!

Where are the privately owned lots? We’ll try to park on campus in the $20 lots, but if those are full, would love to know what other options are available.

we definatately would love to meet up with anyone available. let us know.

Go to the Webcite Mom said [UA Gameday](http://uagameday.com/football/parking-info.php) They show all of the parking lots on campus and within a mile of campus. it was very helpful. I dont think I will mind walkig to the game through the strip but walking back might be a different story.

I too am thinking I’m going to be exhausted after the game. Especially after climbing all the way up to NN-7! Somebody please tell me there’s escalators or elevators or something. Anyway, how tired we’ll be after the game is why I changed my hotel reservation. After driving to Hoover for a Birmingham Barons game, I knew I wasn’t going to be up to driving to Bessemer after the Bama game, where my original reservation was.

Since son is in Riverside, where would be a good parking lot to park at close to his dorm? We’d like to meet up with him to walk to the game, if he’d like, or at least go to the pregame lunch with him.

I don’t think there will be a good parking lot near his dorm besides the pay structure. If you look on the link on the previous page, I don’t think there would be a lot near Riverside. Many of the lots will be off University and the soccer fields. There will be trams to there.
