Okay so I am living at SRD and planning on bringing my car and cannot decide which parking option would be best. I probably will not drive that much.. Most likely only on the weekends I'm guessing. I have 3 options.. Parking at srd for $900, parking the the ut garages for around $700, or parking in the longhorn lots for $120. How inconventent is the longhorn lots? And how much of a walk are they from SRD?

If you live in one of UT dorms, you can apply for a parking permit (R) to have access to one of the UT garages (24/7) except on football game days. If you live at SRD, you can apply for a commuting student park permit (S) but it is not intended for 24-hour storage of your vehicle, which means you can not leave your car in the UT garage overnight.
Longhorn parking lot will allow you to park there 24/7, but it is not as convenient for you as SRD parking. You can take a bus to get there and you can add on a weekend parking permit (N+) at extra cost to park at UT garage for weekends and evenings (see time limits).

^I had a question. If we have a ‘S’ Permit (for commuting students), are we allowed to park in our designated garage on weekends? I thought the S Permit allowed us to park in the garage at anytime, but not overnight and not on Football game days…

^ Yes, you are right. “S” permit will give your weekend parking access to the garage but not overnight. The supplemental “N+” permit will allow you to park in the garage all day on weekends from Friday at 5 p.m. to Monday at 4 a.m. including overnight on Friday, Saturday and partial Sunday nights. Therefore the “N+” permit adds convenience for students who have cars on the Longhorn lots in the east side of IH35 and only need to use their vehicles during the weekends.

Which garages don’t require you to move for games? I’ll be buying an R permit.

If you have not already applied for parking when you sent you app into SRD, parking there might not even be an option. I would call SRD and see if they even a spot available. Parking there is pretty limited based on the amount of girls that bring cars. If you can get a spot there, I would recommend it. It is very safe there and you car is right where you need it.
