Parking permit trivia

Some questions have been asked about permits, and here are some things I learned by calling DOTS today:

Resident student parking permits: apply for a permit and you will receive a permit for the campus on which you will be living that year.

•Cost $210.00 annually

Warning: I am pretty sure that once permits run out on a certain campus, you will be assigned to whatever is left, so if you want to be sure to get a permit near your housing location, apply as soon as possible.

Commuter permits: Two types of permits are available:

Deck permit (Zone A & D) $299.60 annually- allows you to park in a covered deck.

Zone A: College Ave Campus. You may park in College Ave deck, or Lots 20, 26, & 30 from 6am to 2am. All other listed lots after 6pm only.

Zone D: Cook/Douglass Campus. You may park in the Douglass Deck, or Lots 79 or 98B from 6am to 2am. All other listed lots after 6pm only.

Surface lot permit (Zone B, C, & L) $160.50 annually - all of these lots are open-air lots.

Zone B: Busch Campus. You may park in the West Stadium Lot from 6am to 2am. All other listed lots after 6pm only.

Zone C: Cook/Douglass Campus. You may park in Lots 98A or 98B from 6am to 2am. All other listed lots after 6pm only.

Zone L: Livingston Campus. You may park in the Yellow or Green Lots from 6am to 2am. All other listed lots after 6pm only.

So pick your zone based on where you want to start out at the beginning of the day, or end up at the end of the day. You will park in your zone and your car will stay there for the day: you are not allowed to drive between classes or change zones. To get between classes on different campuses during the day, you must take a bus.

You are allowed to change your home zone once per year.

Commuter Zone Change:
Commuter Students with valid permits that wish to change from one Zone to another may do so once a year; pending review of class schedule and space availability. Hangtag and stickers must be returned to complete exchange.
*Exchange requests for Zone A (College Avenue Campus) will not be considered.

Find change info here Department of Transportation Services | Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey

If the surface lot permit is Zone B, C & L, why are we not allowed to drive to different campuses during the day? Or did you mean B, C OR L?

Sabrina that’s just how it’s listed on the website. You have to choose one zone. They don’t want student cars on the roads between classes.

Commuter Permit
•A Commuter Permit is available to students not living in university housing
•Cost for Deck Permit (Zone A & D) $299.60 annually; $203.30 8 month after January 1.
•Cost for a Surface Lot permit (Zone B, C, & L) $160.50 annually; $107.00 8 month after January 1. (Price includes State Sales Tax)
•A half-year permit is not issued during the Fall Semester
•Each additional vehicle costs $10.70 (Price includes State Sales Tax)

Also see zone change info listed in my previous post.

I thought Busch Campus also had a parking deck? Maybe I had not heard correctly. So Busch Campus only has a surface lot, just like Livingston?

Oh and also, when will we be able to purchase the permits?

Ehh. That’s just stupid to me.
I guess I’ll save on gas if nothing else.

Currently, there is no listing for a Livingston Deck. Maybe that is being built? I don’t know.

Parking permits should be available soon. Check the Rutgers website daily. <a href=“Parking & Transportation Services | Institutional Planning and Operations”>Parking & Transportation Services | Institutional Planning and Operations;

Scroll to top. Right now the message is: “Permits for fall 2012 are not yet available. Follow us on Facebook and twitter to be the first to know when permits do become available.”

Parking permit info.

There’s only one parking area for Busch? Does anyone have any first hand experience on how it’s like to park there?

You park there and there is a bus stop. It is on the West side of the stadium, near Sutphen Rd.

[NextBus Map/url.

Where are most of your classes going to be?

btw you can park in other lots on Busch after 6pm. During the daytime, you use the W Stadium lot. Click on the zone links in my long post for a complete listing of the lots you can use and what times they are available to you.

And they’re down again, says to check tomorrow. Did anyone get a permit?

It still says to ‘try tomorrow’ but I tried anyway and it went through.

Posted on Rutgers DOTS FB yesterday: Commuters: Typically Zone A sells out first, then Zone B. Zone D and C will sell out in October. Zone L will not sell out nor will Resident Parking permits.

Also: This year all Zone L commuters, by the end of the semester, will be parking under solar panels and will have access to retail stores (24 hour diner, Qdoba, etc.) at the new Livington Plaza across from the campus transit stop.
