Hi guys, I am commuting to Berkeley for the summer as I have two summer sessions there and I was just wondering about the university's parking permits. I heard from friends that during the regular school year (Fall & Spring semesters) that the parking lots tend to get filled really fast...also that it is really hard to find parking in the lots. It kind of seems like even if you get a parking permit, you aren't guaranteed a spot.

Can anyone confirm or dissolve the parking lot/permit situation or provide any insight? As well as how is the parking lot occupancy/vacancy in the summer? I am considering buy a parking permit for the summer sessions - and possibly in the regular school year - but not if it will serve no use. I live in the bay area so I could always commute by bart. It costs $3.50 round trip for me.

The price of gas, time spent on the road, stress of no guaranteed parking spot plus the cost of the useless parking permit versus $3.50/day Bart
Figure out which is best for your psyche

Thanks beerme, I was just considering driving because the bart stations around my area are sketchy. Hard to trust leaving my car there the whole day while at school and then commuting back at night to go to the parking lot and get in the car…just something to factor in that’s all. Would be ideal if I could get a parking permit and drive to Berkeley daily.

Does anyone know about parking lot occupancy during summer sessions? I assume it would be less students which could mean that driving could be a possibility. If you have any info, please let me know. Thanks.

The parking lots don’t get full very fast at all, not even during the school year (not sure which parking lots your friends are talking about :/). It’s street parking that sucks, but you can always find parking somewhere. I have to agree though, it’s way expensive.
