can any current USC students help me with the situation with parking permits?
More specifically how fast they run out and where would be the easiest and cheapest to park.
Thanks for the help

where are you living? that will make a diff in where you want permits from

all the dorms i signed up for are close to gate 3, new, north, honors housing

I believe they got rid of general student parking in PSX which is right across from those dorms. So for on-campus options, you can probably get parking in PSD which is also very close, PSA which is on the opposite side of campus, or PSB as long as you make sure to buy one ASAP after they go on sale. Last year I signed on the site about 6 hours after they went on sale and PSA and PSD were not yet sold out, but I assume they didn't last too long after that (I couldn't tell you exactly how long).

Offcampus you have the Parking Center and the new PS1. There's more available and it's about $100 cheaper a semester, but if you're already going to USC and paying for a car, insurance, gas, etc., I recommend just forking it over for an on-campus spot. There is a shuttle to the parking center (not sure about PS1), but it's a lot slower than walking, and doesn't even run late at night. (Campus cruiser runs longer, but during the hours of about 3 AM and 6 AM I believe, you have no choice other than to walk) Usually the streets are totally abandoned that late at night, but it's still not exactly as safe to walk around as on-campus, and it's simply less convenient because your car is farther away. Oh, and if you have any permit at all, you can park anywhere on-campus if it is NOT 7 AM-5 PM Monday-Friday.

there is also the shrine parking lot on 32nd steet

but what i meant was that if anyone was applying for say, century...they have their own parking

6 hours after PSA and D were not sold out last year? and this was after the econ lot had closed and this was the year they started to not sell daily passes because of full lots.

i was under the impression all the on campus stuff sells out within the hour "maybe"....but then again something "odd" has always happened in the past years for me, this will be the first year i'm going to be buying a permit the normal way so "we shall see".

one thing that seems different is this year the general sale starts at noon, i remember it was at 8AM last time.......not that it makes a huge difference, but i bet some people have trouble dragging themselves to a computer that early and forget.

I guess not...it might not have been exactly 6 hours, but I distinctly remember forgetting that it was the day of permits being sold until the afternoon. PSX, PSB, and most of the lots were sold out but not those two.

so how safe is the walk from parking center back to campus say on a weekend, during the day or night

What ia ur recoomendation on bringing a car

Also, I noticed that they go on sale soon. Do freshman buy them now as well, or is there a later date for that?

bump......

What about parking permits for Spring admits? Do I wait 'til the Spring semester starts or buy it as soon as it is available?

How safe is the walk to parking center, during the day I'd say it's more or less safe. Of course not like Beverly Hills safe, but safe enough. At night, it's questionable. Usually there's almost nobody walking around there at night, students or otherwise and especially on weekends, which is good and bad. Good because first there's not a lot of student targets for criminals to hit, so they're more likely to go where there is student housing etc. and second, there are good sight lines and thus nowhere that someone can hide, and you can avoid anyone who looks suspicious. Bad because if a criminal does go there, there's probably not going to be anyone around to witness it. I never refused to walk fearing for my safety, but I did try to get it over with as quickly as possible.

Nikara, everyone buys them at the same time. But I don't think most freshmen are even aware of the sales. (I wasn't which is why I was in the parking center because that's all I could buy in late summer) Buy when you can.

I'm not sure about spring admits, but if I were you I'd probably buy one. You might be able to sell the first semester to someone, but I have no experience with that.

Ok, I just called USC and found out that the parking permits go on sale on May 11. so yea...just to let you guys know (for those who weren't aware) =)
