Parking Question

Got in as a transfer, and was looking at the parking app and saw this:

" In order to apply for a parking permit you must have an off-campus job and receive monetary compensation that is local, verifiable, current and continuous (Volunteer work or unpaid internships DO NOT qualify as employment and should not be listed). If you are a Regents/Alumni Scholar and do not have a job, please call the parking office to verify your status and for further instructions. All permits must be picked up at the Parking Office and students must show 2 current pay stubs or canceled checks only, along with a valid driver’s license and student ID. "

Problem is, I'm not from LA, so therefore don't have a job in LA. However, if I get my car down there, I WILL find a job. But, without a car, it's going to be much harder. Is it required that I have a job WHILE going to school, or can I simply put where I'm working during the summer?

Bump (10 char)

The job is required while you're going to school. You m ay be getting a job but they don't know that for sure. You'd have to come down to LA beforehand, get a job, and then you'll get parking. You can always get parking the following quarter if you do end up with a job.

well see. if any of your information changes after you submit the application, including employment, housing, etc, you're supposed to amend your application. if you don't, you run the risk of being totally screwed if audited (which is, however, rare).

that said, i didn't know to do this my first time applying and ended up getting parking using my home address (bc i didn't know to update after getting my apartment). i applied as a shot in the dark and wound up getting the permit. fortunately i had documentation prepared in case i was audited, and even more fortunately, i was never audited. so i got lucky.

but anyway, that anecdote is fairly superfluous since you'd need the job before you applied. if you do get a job, you can apply in november for winter+spring permits. you'd just need to find a spot to rent or park on the street for october.
