My D will be a sophmore living off campus but too close to qualify for a Gold permit. Does anyone understand how this works and what her parking permit options are?

My daughter had the same problem when she moved “off campus” 2 years ago (actually her apartment was just up Main Street one block from Paneras). The only permit that she could have gotten from Delaware would have required her to park way down in the commuter lot by the football stadium. Instead she connected the Newark Parking Authority and was able to purchase a permit (6 months at a time) to park at a specific lot off Main Street. Luckily she was assigned to a lot just one block from her apartment. This might be an option for your daughter but I understand beginning in September this type of arrangement might no longer be available for students. I would suggest that you call the Newark Parking Authority and inquire about whether this is still available. Best of luck to your daughter in resolving her parking dilemma. Parking is probably one of the few problems in attending Delaware.

Thanks for the reply, does that football lot permit allow for gold lot parking after 4pm on weeknights?

According to my daughter (again this was the rule 2 years ago) a person with a commuter permit can park in the Gold lots after 4:00 pm on weekdays but the car needs to be out by 8:00 am the next morning. Also you can park in the Gold lots on weekend days.

thanks for the information
