Parking

I was planning on bringing my car if I attended, until someone told me parking cost ridiculous $800ish...is this true? If not, how much?

$750 for the year for me in 27th Street Garage.

$1070 at dobie

Parking at Castilian Dorms is over $1,000 for the year.

Yes, it’s true that parking here is almost comically expensive. My friend paid like 725 dollars to park in TSG last year and had her car broken in once and keyed twice.

$760/year at Brazos Garage by Jester. I have not seen, heard, or gotten any emails about automobile vandalism. The garages have the most police help call buttons compared to anywhere else on campus. At one point garages may have been unsafe, but not anymore.

If you have a job, get a R permit. If you only need a car to home long distance, get a C permit for $100-170. You park 20 minute walk away from main campus. And still, I have yet to got any notification from vandalism from the C lots as well. None of my friends or their friends have had any car keyed, broken, or stolen. IF your car does get vandalized, you get a full refund on your garage permit or you get relocated from a C lot to a garage for free.

The Parking and Transportation department is independent from the University. They get no funding to build and maintain garages. That is why permits are so expensive. On campus garage parking is cheaper than off campus garage parking because so many people park on campus the UTPTS department makes enough profit to lower the costs per individual. Less people park at Dobie, so it is more expensive.

Is there always parking space available in the garages?

I’m in SJG, one of the toughest garages to get into. I was on the waiting list for 18 months. It has never been full, but one time I had to park on the top level (6th floor).

Everyday except football games, there will be open parking spaces for the public (you have to pay per hour). For residents with a permit for the specific garage, there will always be a spot open on the 4th floor or higher (where R permits are allowed to park), you just may not like where you park.

I always got 4th floor parking by the elevator at BRG. But I moved my car back the night right after football games (4 hours).

I suddenly decided not to take my car. Is there really a bus that will take me around ALL over Austin? I tend to visit a few friends who attend AI.
