Parking

Can someone explain how the parking lottery works? Do most kids get a spot? I believe freshman can bring cars, can someone confirm this? On the parking lottery site it asks for a dorm, what do you put if you're a freshman and don't have a dorm assigned yet?

My daughter brought her car this year and is a Freshman. We signed up for the lottery. You pick 6 choices of where you would like to park the first choice being the best for you.I picked parking lot x because she was going to live in New/North.We did get our first choice.I think you will be assigned a dorm by the time the lottery opens.Make a parking account now so that you are ready when the lottery opens.

Thanks stalkermama, very helpful!

My D was a spring admit just bumped up to fall yesterday so starting to look at things like parking. We can’t decided if she should have a car on campus or not. We would have to drive it from IL but it would allow her to visit her family in Orange County more easily among other things. What percentage of non-communting freshman have a car on campus? Is it hard to get a spot through the lottery?

It is not hard to get a spot through lottery. Many people have cars, many people do not. It won’t be the end of the world if they don’t have one as many others will and can drive them. That being said there are plenty of things to see and do in southern California that require driving (beaches, hiking, trips to orange county, san diego etc.).

There is enough parking for everyone, you just might not get the parking structure closest to your residence.

Most freshmen do not have cars (many do).

You can take the train from Union Station to Orange County (multiple locations) if you don’t want to drive from IL. It doesn’t take long, and runs frequently.

I would really appreciate help with the parking lottery. When asked if you want to be on waitlist we checked all which included PS1, PS2, PSB, ZParking Center, PSA and PSD. We have no idea which lots are close to freshman dorms such as Pardee, however are worried about getting parking at all. We were confused as it initially said Cardinal Plan included these lots. If anyone can clarify, and also advise if I should take D off any of these waitlists, I would be greatful.

To the above question: [USC Maps](http://web-app.usc.edu/maps/)

As stated before, there is enough parking for everyone.

I really doubt it said that parking was included with your meal plan, perhaps you misread?

So sorry! Looking at parking map while writing…meant Gold as opposed to Cardinal (just finished picking meal plans…thus Cardinal was on the brain!). So, my understanding is that although this whole grouping of lots are considered Gold Lots, you are only eligible to park in one of those lots for $414 as determined by lottery. That said, do you believe it is suuficient to put yourself in lottery for the one or two lots close to the dorms, or do you believe you should do more?

Put yourself in the PS2 lottery as well, because it’s fairly close to Pardee and is unlikely to fill up. Consider that your ‘safety’… hahah.

The Parking Center is much less convenient, but know that it will never fill up.

BandTenHut: How do you get to the parking center? It looks like its across the freeway.
