i am planning to take my car to IU this fall and i am just wondering which dorm building or wing should i pick so that i am not too far away from my car? also, which dorms are the closet to kelley? thanks

Here's a link to a description of the dorms given in another thread.
Briscoe appears to be close to a student lot, although actually using a car on campus can be more of a hassle than it's worth.

Forest has parking lots on both sides. However, the lots are pretty small considering the size of the dorms. I'm not sure if parking is a problem or not, as my son does not have a car there.

Correction: freshmen are not allowed to park their cars at Forest, and perhaps at many other dorm parking lots. My son says his friend who has a car has to park it over by the stadium during the week, then move it to the dorm during the weekend, when there is free parking at the dorms, but they want stadium parking open.

A bike might be of more use than a car...

How bad is bike theft? I have a nice bike, but i'm pretty sure it would be ripped off, since it's not a $20 Huffy.

I would have to drive my SUV to Indiana to move a lot of my stuff. I also want to go out of the campus during the weekend and I really dont wanna rely on public transportation since it's a rural town. Also, I hear that after your first year, you can get a parking permit which then allows you to park by the dorms. Is anyone else bringing their car to campus this fall? Any suggestions about where I should park the car (like having someone else to buy your pass) and about how many students actually drive a car to school?

So...are freshmen allowed to buy parking passes?

I know freshmen who have their cars on campus. I kind of wish I brought my car, rather than riding the bus to go to grocery stores and stuff.

Freshmen can have cars on campus, but they may not be able to park by their dorms during the week, depending upon which dorm they are in. I don't know all the particulars, however. You might want to call up IU and find out more.

Seriously I am taking my car down since I am out of state but we used to live down in good ol' bloomington/spencer/ elletsville(sp) so I am leaving it with family friends. Yeah and definatly bringing a bike.
