Parking

How competitive is the process to obtain a parking permit (the S one i believe...)? I'm looking to get the parking permit that is around 600-700 dollars a year and would allow me to park at one or any of the garages on Campus.

Also, is there a way to be able to park in any of the garages with the permit, or do we have to select one? On another note, which garages have the least amount of traffic around them?

Thanks.

A garage parking permit is specific to one garage, and some garages are more competitive than others. The most competitive garage is the San Jacinto garage. I got an F permit there a few years ago after about 14 months on the waitlist (they told me it would probably be 18 months).

Interesting. Do you know if we can simply add the parking permit to the “what I owe” / my tuition page or do we have to pay up front before obtaining the permit?

You apply for the permit simply by signing up that you want one. Go here to do that:

If the garage you want is still available, you’ll pay online right away and they’ll either mail you a permit or tell you to go to the Trinity Garage to pick it up. If the garage you want is waitlisted, then you apply and when your name comes up they’ll e-mail you and give you a deadline for paying for it. It probably won’t show up under What I Owe because it’s not a requirement – you can decline (or not pay on time), and the permit will be offered to someone else. Once you have a permit, you’ll get an e-mail every year when it’s up for renewal.
