parking

I'm hoping one of the parents (or students) here who are familiar with Northampton can help me out. I need to find a place to park my car long-term from 9/2 when orientation starts until 9/5 when permits for on-campus parking go on sale. Does anyone know where I should look? Is contract parking even available? Any idea on what prices might be? I don't really want to end up missing huge chunks of orientation because I'm meter-hopping, and long-term parking seems like my best bet. Any alternate ideas are more than welcome!

Also - are any of you parents of seniors who won't be bringing cars to campus? I'm a new Ada who will be in the pool of junior applicants hoping for a permit, so I don't know what my chances of securing one are. I'd be more than happy to strike a deal with a carless senior who can get a permit for me!

You can keep your car in the Northampton Parking garage by Thornes. I've parked there and it's great. Forget about having a sr. get a permit for you.
My daughter found this for you.

The rants are great, albeit, a bit foul-mouth at times. :)

“Okay, this will not work. I know because I tried to do it last year.

When you get a permit, they look at your vehicle registration, insurance, and tons of other information to verify you are who you say you are. If you are getting a permit for a car that is not yours, they will find out. If you get a permit for your car and put it on another car, they will find out because periodically they check license plates the list of permits in their system. Again, I tried this and I failed."

If you're living more than 3 miles from campus as an ADA, you can get a permit.

"Ada Comstock Scholars commuting more than three miles one way may purchase parking decals ($5) for spaces in the Tilly lot, parking garage and Indoor Track and Tennis lot."

You can also rent parking spaces at various spaces around Noho for the year if you don't get a permit. Autumn Inn, near the quad, rents out spaces in their parking lot, as do several other hotels in the area. I think the Thornes garage (which is your best bet for short term parking) also has long term rates, as do some other parking garages.

You shouldn't have a problem finding non-metered street parking within a few blocks of your house though for those few days of orientation. Most of the kids with cars won't get there until the 4th or 5th and although there will be parents with cars, it still won't be as crowded as when the students get there.

Great, thanks for all the info!
