Does any one know the parking situation at UCI. Is it better for on campus people or commuters?

If you live on campus (Mesa Court, Middle Earth, Arroyo Vista, Campus Village), you can only park in the lot at your housing complex. Your resident permit is not valid on campus (i.e. you can't drive to class) unless it's after 5:00 (it might be 4:00, I'm not 100% sure). But I personally think it would be silly to drive to class anyway, since it would take you less time to walk.

Of the two freshman complexes (Mesa and Middle), I would say that the parking situation is better at Mesa. They are building a new parking structure at Middle, so for now parking there kinda sucks. They got rid of their big lot so students have to park pretty far away. Mesa has a big lot and a big parking structure across the street.

If you're a commuter, parking isn't too bad as long as you get to campus before 9:30. If you arrive in the middle of the day, be prepared to spend around 30 minutes waiting for a spot. And even if you do get there early, don't ever expect to get a "great" spot. The best spots are still several hundred feet away from the lecture halls, if you're lucky.

If you're willing to park anywhere, you can find a spot any time of day. If you end up parking really far away, there are shuttles that can take you from where you park to where you need to be.
