Parking

I was wondering how I would get parking at my apartment. I jsut got accepted for the Spring 09 semester and was assigned to the Annenberg house, which has a parking garage, and I was hoping someone could help me out and lead me in the right direction to get a spot. If not, I would have to get a spot at a further parking spot.

I also have another question. Since I'm living off-campus but it is USC owned housing, would this make me a commuter or residential? I'm asking because the parking passes that go on sale Monday and Tuesday all say Commuter. Idk if this means that I could park my car there overnight or not.

Any info would be helpful! Thank you!

you would be a resident I would imagine.
And I think annenberg apartment garages maybe something you have to go into the lottery for, I know alot of school housing ones are like that. I'm not totally sure though.
If all else fails, you can always street park. Alot of people I know actually does that although somebody crashed into my friends car or something and left a huge bump.. -_-

yea, I figured there would be a lottery or something but I don't see anywhere to sign up. Is it possible to park on the streets around my dorm? Do a lot of people do that?

^ you can definitely street park, just watch out for street signs that tell you no parking from whatever time to whatever time on whatever days. My friends do it all the time and there are actually alot of spaces around where he lives (city park). He actually has a parking space and he still does this.

but like I said, if it's a nice car.. I would get a garage because people might get into accidents with it. Parking center is the cheapest option but it's far away and the tram takes forever.

OH on top of that my car got broken into at the parking center and moved so it's not that safe either.

I don't know where you can get into the lottery for your parking center but I would ask the transportation office either by an email or phone. :)

Do you really have to bring a car? A lot of kids on campus have bicycles. The only two reasons I can justify for a car is if you your parents live driving distance and you want to drive home on the week-ends or if you are getting a paid internship/job which requires you to drive in order to get to work. Although the cost of gas has gone down, it is very expensive to have a car on campus. Insurance cost is high in addition to the cost of parking, maintenance.

You don't need a car. My daughter has a car so she can drive home without us having to come to USC to pick her up. I would use zip car because it's cheaper. I would not park on the street. I think you need to buy Residential. Last year there was a lot of spaces in Parking Structure A and D available when D purchased a parking permit.

you definitely don't need a car, but you need to remember this IS LA. bad public transportation/everything's far away from each other. If you want to do anything out of campus, it's nice to have a car and just hang out with your friends at a nice restaurant/cafe/beaches :). If you dont have a car... least know someone with one.
