this might not seem very important but I just recently heard that you can't get a parking permit until you have about 50 credits? This seems a little unreasonable to me and if I do go to uconn (sophomore transfer) I'm going to want my car there. I'm in-state and I want to be able to come home or get off campus whenever I want. Does anyone know what the parking situation is?

There is a privately-owned lot near the Visitor center from which an individual unaffiliated with the University leases spots to students…according to our tour guide…

Unfortunately parking spots are very limited. I believe only commuters get an exception to that 54 credit rule, and since you aren’t one, that would pretty much leave you to going the route the above poster mentioned. That specific lot is called “Farmer Brown’s Parking.” It’s more expensive though.

Yeah, it’s 54 credits unless you’re a commuter.

Farmer Brown’s parking is ridiculously expensive, and will cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $600+ a year, at least. Not worth it. I wouldn’t even consider it if I were you.

Instead, there are other numerous places around campus where you can park. If you want to park on campus/close to the center of campus, you could get parking in North Garage (~$300 a year, though this may be for commuters only, can’t remember) or the Nathan Hale Inn (not sure how much this is).

The best option until you have enough credits to purchase a permit may be to find a local establishment or business that will lease you a parking space. My friend asked at a nearby church and got a very cheap parking space there. So if you want parking, you will find it. It’s probably a couple minutes’ walk farther than the other on-campus lots and locations but unless you plan on driving every day, that shouldn’t be a problem.

The non-university affiliated lots and options are not listed but you can still get some info on university-provided parking here:

Another thing that I just thought of that you can do. Park your car in a nearby convenience store parking lot in the morning, then move your car back into a school parking lot after 4 or 5, when you no longer need a parking sticker to park there. Of course you would need to do this every morning before like 8, and there is a chance your car will be towed from 8-4/5… but it’s an idea and you get to save a couple bucks. lol
