Parking???

Will someone please explain what "R Draw" is? Do we want to participate in this? My son will be in San Jacinto. What are the best parking options? Did I read correctly that students must relocate their cars from some garages when there is a football game?

Garage permits for students living on campus are decided by a draw. The first draw was last Tuesday and the next one should be tomorrow. Students in any garage east of Speedway and the Speedway garage must move their cars for all home football games. There are probably some other events they have to move them for, but I am not sure, I think it’s mostly football games. They will have another garage on campus they can park in during that time, so they do have a place to park, just farther away. The closest garge for San Jacinto is the Brazos garage, adjacent to Jester. I suspect it is also the first to fill up. If you want a spot for your car, just go on the parking website and follow the link. You can put down 3 choices. You will be notified by e-mail if you get a spot and only have a few days to purchase it.

You can also purchase surface lot permits C and C+, but that parking is accross the freeway at the baseball fields and a spot is not guaranteed. You can read about the different permits on the parking website.

If you end up registering for the third round of the r permit draw would you have good chances of getting brazos?

Hard to say. If you even think you want one, I would sign up today. If you don’t purchase it and the offer expires, you can just sign up for the next one. Last year, we didn’t realize my ds had gotten an offer and we signed up for the next one. It does not seem to matter if you sign up for multiple drawings.

Brazos would be ideal if you were living in San Jac. Go for the Draw. :)

Thanks for the help! How long does it take to find out if you got something from the draw? Are the draw dates posted somewhere?

I think it took about ten days for them to send the email after I entered in.

They don’t post the dates, but I think they are every Tuesday. Go to the parking website and go to “My Parking Profile”. You will have to enter the EID and password. It will then show you options for purchase. If you got a spot with a draw it will have a spot that says something like “purchase R draw”. It will also show you options to purchase the C and C+ permits, how to register your bike, etc.

Bumping … does anyone know if spots usually open up for Spring semester? The only choice under “my parking profile” is to purchase for the full academic year.

Anyone?

Call the parking people and ask. They’ll give you a more definite answer. :]

I am sure they do. There are always people whose circumstances change. I know if you cancel your parking during the year, you get a pro rated refund. I second the recommendation to call, you usually get more up to date info that way.
