I am moving in Saturday with the rest of the world. Surely, campus will be packed which means parking is at a minimum. My parents would like to walk around campus/Franklin and basically just spend the afternoon with me without costing a fortune to park. Any suggestions?

If you are limited on other and probably more convenient options, you’d be more than welcome to park at my apartment complex (free) and take the bus (also free!) into town and around campus. I’d vouch for you guys. I live a couple miles from campus up MLK by Estes (Shadowood Apts.) I’m a new transfer student, but I’ve been here since July.

Anyways, I’d be glad to help a fellow new Tar Heel out if I can. :)

So, there should be parking available on campus, just not close to the dorms after you unload initially. I think on your parking pass that you download from the housing website, you ask the parking monitors where the overflow parking is and put the pass face up on the dashboard. I’m thinking if you are on South Campus, it will probably be in the S11 Manning Lot.

Also, the visitor’s lots might be free since it is the weekend. Not completely sure about that though.

Hope that helps a little.

Random question–how much does parking cost per semester? I know you can’t park on campus as a freshman unless you live in Granville (which, although I do, my parents refuse to pay the $750 price), but I’m wondering about what I’ll have to pay in the future…

Thanks BarkingAtHeels, that’s very generous of you. If there isn’t a convenient option, I may take up your offer. I am a new transfer student as well!

Does anyone know where free parking is available nearby Alderman/Kenan Community on Saturday? To be specific, it’s on Raleigh St. sort of by Chapel of the Cross and the Morehead Planetarium.
