Im a transfer and I just got notified that I got Parkside Suites. Ive heard many mixed reviews about this place, but perhaps a person already attending USC on this board can help me out. I would like to know if you think Parkside Suites would be a place for a person like me or should I try to get reassigned (I wanted Cardinal Gardens!). I consider myself a really socially outgoing guy. I love to have fun, go to parties, and hang out, but I am also studious when I must. Another worry is that I know Parkside houses many international students and no offense to them or anything, but I would much rather room with American students (similar interests).

So what do u think? Should i try to get reassigned?

btw, parkside was my 6th choice!!! :/ I was really going for Century, La Saborne, or Cardinal Gardens

nooooooo noooooo... take parkside suites!!!!! you are extremely lucky to get on-campus housing as a transfer!!!

parkside apts has a lot of international students and is fairly old, but parkside suites are NICE and it will definitely suit your social needs.

believe me, on-campus housing is the way to go. don't listen to anyone, take the apartment!!!

parkside suites > cardinal gardens & troy east

parkside suites >>> century and whatever else

You really should consider yourself lucky! About half the people I met at orientation didn't get ANY of their picks and were stuck in the Radisson!

Parkside suites is definitely awesome! I got a tour of it and everything is so new, it's literally like a luxury hotel, only smaller rooms. The bathrooms are nice too. Parkside is one of the few halls to be AIR CONDITIONED!! Parkside was so much better than where I stayed for orientation (von Kleinsmid hall in New college); the difference was literally night and day. Take Parkside; I myself can't wait to get in there in August.

BTW, anybody know what is going on at Parkside Apts right now? I'm talking about the construction they're doing, it seems like they're building pillars.

USCwannabe-

i heard that century is terrible. parkside suites is supposed to be awesome and its right near all of the academic buildings.
does anyone know anything about Portland Street House or Manor? That's what me and my girlfriend got.

Parkside's disadvantage is that it's definitely not near all the academic buildings, being on the southwestern corner of campus. The Engineering school and some LAS buildings are very near, and the Commons and Student Union aren't that far either, but Annenburg, the Film School, and other LAS buildings (von Kleinsmid and Taper Halls, to name a few) are definitely some distance away.

i got portland street house too. i guess it's an old frat house that was converted into transfer housing or something. anyone know anything else?

nice lace. i guess ill see you in august.

No non-freshmen housing is going to be really social like the dorms, but it all depends on who you live by and what you make of it. Parkside definitely has better accomodations than Century and Cardinal Gardens, and it is nice that it is on campus and has a nice cafeteria. It's true that it is far away from the rest of housing, and a lot of the academic buildings, but a lot of people love it there. It'll be perfect for you to study in, and if you want to party, you can ALWAYS find something somewhere.

As far as Portland and Manor, they're just normal off-campus housing apts. I mean, they're not as desired as Troy or Troy East (smaller, farther away, older), but they work. They aren't going to be as social, either, but my roommate lived at Manor two years ago and still had a good time (not necessarily there, but her time at USC in general). Basically what I got out of her was that it was kind of shabby (at least compared to Troy East, where we lived this past year), and I know that she lived on a bottom floor facing some wall, and apparently it was always dark in their bedroom. That's really all I've heard. But housing is what you make of it, and you definitely don't have to be in there that much if you don't want to! :)

is it unheard of for transfers being assigned to dorms? I really really wanna stay in a dorm to get the experience. Im thinkin about asking for a reassignment if i can get a dorm. I know my chances r slim to none, but ya gotta try right!?

uschicka -

I'm pretty sure Portland Street House isn't an apartment and I heard it is very social because it's like living in a frat house (I think it's the old beta house)

Portland Street is an old frat house, but I just meant that it's just basic off-campus housing.

USCwannabe- I haven't heard of transfers being in dorms (this may just be my experience, though). Dorms at USC are basically just for freshmen, with very limited space for sophomores, let alone transfers (I don't know what year you're transferring in as). You can definitely still try, though.

Im in PARKSIDE!!!! Represent!

sweet. i just sent in my housing deposit for parkside too. I got a double. 8 ppl in one pad!! Thats gonna be crazy
