Parsons, SVA, etc. -- Graphic Design

Hey guys,

I'm 17 and in my senior year of HS in New York City... my goal through college is become a graphic designer, possibly doing retouching or helping at marketing firms or even freelance.

I applied to Parsons, School of Visual Arts, and Hunter. Originally FIT as well but personal things that happened made me realize I just could not finish the final stretch in their very long portfolio section.

I was just accepted into Parsons for a BFA in Communication Design today while I am still finishing up some stuff SVA wanted from me. It feels like a relief to be accepted somewhere and I know that Parsons has a good reputation in the design world...

However, in a way I feel like I don't know whether to continue and wait for SVA. It seems like Communication Design will be 4 years long but that will not give enough of an education for Graphic Design specifically because in order to get into Graphic Design AAS you have to have a BFA. It's somewhat (okay, very) confusing to me because I don't want to make a decision just because Parsons may be more popular than SVA. I applied to SVA specifically for Graphic Design.

I guess that seemed without a vent, but any responses or opinion would be much appreciated, thanks. :)

Do I or my kid know you? hope not… that will be embarrassing.
my kid is not design kid and I never really looked into either schools but far as I know, parsons are more for fashion, SVA for commercial art. if you want graphic design, I would say finish through SVA apps. Are they still giving away scholarships? They are both expensive schools, how are you going to pay for it?
It’s late for decent folks, wait till tomorrow, more people will give you better answers.
