part time and a W

right now i have 13 units from a 4 unit anthro class, 4 units accounting, and 5 units second quarter calculus. how would it look if i dropped the calculus class and got a W? if i did that i would be considered part time for the quarter since it would be only a total of 8 units. i have a decent gpa around 3.8-3.9.

Additionally, i applied to some csu's, and uc's for admission this fall, but am rethinking my major from economics to business admin. so because of this i would have to stay an extra quarter or 2 because i need to the pre-reqs. so would i just reapply for the quarter i want?

please let me know

thanks

bump, anybody please?

would it look bad to drop the class for a W and only have 8 units this quarter?

anytime you get a W it looks bad. You need an explanation why you dropped your class… Working more, family obligations, etc

Also i there are very few business admin majors at any UCs. Actually the only one u can transfer for to is Haas at UCB. Irvine has one but they wont accept Bus Admin majors till next year. It would be a shame not to go to a UC with your GPA but if Bus Admin is what you really want to do than CSU might be your choice, But I always say go to the best school you get accepted to. Also it depends if you want to do Grad school. If you getting your MBA in Business Admin, then i say stick to econ for undergrad in the top 5 UCs, UCB, UCLA, UCI, UCSD, UCD and then do ur bus admin for grad school

Actually, they don’t care about how many W’s you have.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/373907-how-many-w-s-you-have-effect-chance.html</a></p>

it does matter if you just drop without an explanation. Especially since you are dropping to partime status

Ws are not recommended

It is unlikely that “w” grades will have an effect on admissions. From the “Transfer Q&A with Senior Evaluators” session during the UC counselors conference (http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/educators/counselors/resources/materials/conferences.html):

*A withdrawal (W) on a student’s record generally does not have an effect on the way the University reviews an applicant’s record

*If there are numerous withdrawals on a student’s record for many terms, the student might want to address this in the personal statement

It depends on how many Ws you get. If you get one W, and your overall gpa is higher than 3.8, it will be alright. If you get like 5 Ws with a high gpa, its okay but you will want to put in an explaination. If you get 5 Ws with a low gpa, youre just screwed.
