Part time Haas MBA worth it. Salary 150k and 25

Hi guys,

Just wondering if you guys think a part time mba is worth it for myself. I am in the career I love but eventually want into get into upper management thus a part time mba is something i want to strive for.

Background :
undergrad: stats/econ (top 20 program)
masters: stats (top 5 program)
work experience: 3 years
profession: data scientist
age: 25

only looking into Haas

I attended ASU’s MBA program in the mid 1990’s and I can say without a doubt that it really helped my career. To be honest I don’t think there is that much difference long-term between a part-time MBA, full-time MBA or an executive MBA program in terms of prestige or value to employers. The overall ranking of the B School counts but which program you sign up for does not.

Yes, the Haas PT program is worth it.
Have a friend who was working for Apple while she attended the PT program. I think it helped her career.
Her husband attended the Duke PT worldwide MBA program and it helped him too though he had to fly all over the world to do it.
Both had been working for at least 5 years before they attended the program.

Apparently, you are in the SF Bay Area. There a few people in my company here in the SF Bay Area who have completed or going to the Haas PT Program. They seem to have done well. Also, some have completed or attend the part-time Wharton West MBA program, sponsored by the Univ. of Penn’s Wharton Graduated Business School. They have done well too. You might also want to consider the part-time Wharton West MBA program since it connected to the Ivy League.

Do the people in the positions you want have MBAs? Or do they have master’s degrees in a discipline (like computer science or statistics for a data scientist)? You already have an MA in statistics and depending on your company and where you want to go in it, that might be what you need. I’d start do some informational interviews and networking with people in your company - and in other companies - that have positions the next rung(s) up on the ladder and see what they think.
