Part-time job for summer__But going to Penn?

Hey,

I'm from Atlanta and will be an incoming freshman into CAS Econ this year. I wanna break into investment banking eventually hopefully.

For the summer, not only do I want to earn some money for college, I want SOME work experience for a resume as I have none currently besides reffing soccer. This would be building blocks for landing an internship somewhere hopefully before junior year, then landing a major internship during junior year.

For applying to part-time jobs, there is a space for what university I am currently attending. I can technically leave it blank since I am still in high school, but I want employers to know I'm smart enough to at least be attending a univesity.

Would it look bad to say that I'm going to Penn? Then employers would know I'm ditching the city in a few months. I doubt they know or even care that Penn is an Ivy League school. Availability is what matters. Should I put a local school that I got accepted into in Atlanta to increase my chances of getting the job? Or is being honest important or even helpful in this case?

I just reaaaallly am desperate for a job this summer

Most places hire for the summer understanding that students will quit for college in the fall…I honestly don’t think a regular job (like at a retail store) makes that huge of a difference for getting future internships.

Never, ever lie on a job application. If they find out you get fired and you won’t have references from them in the future.

Just apply to a lot of places…you’ll get a job.

Yeah as long as you don’t claim to be applying for an actual full time job, it’s no big deal. Coming right out of high school, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to get a job which gets you “real” experience for purposes of future jobs, but employers like to see work experience in whatever form that may be, so try to find something fun. Become a lifeguard or a store clerk or something.
