I am a recent graduate out of high school and my career goal is to attain an MBA at a top school. Would a part time teller job help improve my resume.I am also taking summer classes.

It's better than burgers at Mickeys!

My son worked as a bank teller last summer. He made over $4000 for the summer, and went through their teller training and customer service course -- which I would like to adapt for my employees. It's really great first-job experience, it pays well, and may be something where you can go back on breaks and pick up hours around the holidays or spring break.

I would like to point out that your EDUCATIONAL goal is an MBA. What you do with that credential would be your CAREER goal.

Most MBA programs only look at your full-time job history after you graduate from college. Jobs out of high school won't help you too much. Even college internships don't really count towards the job experience requirements (ie. 4-6 years.)

However, it is a decent job opportunity. Getting this job might help you land internships during college. Having a good college internship will help you land a good job after you graduate. Having a good job after you graduate will help you get into a good MBA program.

However, from what I have seen, I don't think putting down this job as a teller on your MBA application will help you any.

Go read some of the threads in the MBA forum about the job experience requirements for the top MBA programs.

Do nothing. Its obviously better than getting work experience and getting money. Doing nothing will also obviously help you get internships/relevant work experience during your college career.

Great question btw, we don't get many non-obvious, well-thought out discussions on this board, and I'm glad you break the mold.

I think you should explain the sarcasm since the OP was able to come up with this great question.

If you plan to go into finance, the teller position is great. It builds character for future internships. Its not so much the experience you gain but the image that you project from the experience. Tellers are said to be honest, trustworthy, and highly ethical. If you decide to take on an internship with a Big 4 firm or somewhere in finance where you're dealing with information that could potentially harm a large company.

Take the job and start seeking summer internships starting this november for the coming summer.

Yea well I applied to lots of positions besides that teller position at Chase. I submitted resumes for internships to UBS, Morgan Stanley, BNP Paribas(the reps from this french company are very obstinate), and Deutsche bank. No responses yet. I really want to get one of those positions. I was told there were students applying from ivies mostly. Sucks for me.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAAHH Applied to UBS morgan stanley right outside of high school. Kids these days.

these youngins really need to do their research before they go off and waste all these trees they're going to be trying to save next year....

Its mostly been covered, but a teller job would be a great post high school job, especially for a business grad
