parties at nd

What are the parties like? Do you have to go off campus to find drinking parties?

No, there are plenty of parties on-campus, though upper-classmen usually head off-campus (and lower-classmen as well once parietals hit). ND overall is pretty lax when it comes to beer, but watch out with hard alcohol!

ive always wondered how "dorm parties" work... whenever i visit colleges of my friends i always end up at a frat... i mean the dorms are so small how do you have a "dorm party" do u like leave all the doors open and just have a party on a whole floor??? do they allow you to drink in the hallways (of guys dorms at least...?)

Most men's dorms have the rule "No beer in the hallway." Other than that, you usually just drink in the room with friends, sort of just hanging out. It ends up being a good time.

some dorm rooms can get decently big. i've been to parties with 100+ people here

Was dorm and big just in the same sentence?

When I was up at ND for a football game, one of the wings had all the doors open and there were a bunch of people having a party. The wing I stayed though was dry, as the people we were staying with weren't into the party scene. It just really depends. My sister's dorm though was quiet, no drinking. So I'm assuming that most of the on campus drinking happens in the guy dorms.

The ND party scene is comparable to most other universities. We don't have any frats, but the different sports teams, and other random people, have houses that often throw parties. Off-campus parties are bigger and more popular than dorm parties. There are usually several parties going on at houses, apartments, and dorms on a given weekend. There actually are parties in the dorms, which usually consist of a room crammed with as many freshman as possible, with beer and loud music. Drinking is not allowed in the hallways, and basically all of the on-campus parties are in guys dorms. Like kevdude said, it is very common for people to drink while just hanging out with a small group of friends in their dorm room.

the more i talk to ppl who go there, the less i am worried about the social life! i really think ND's "lack of social life" gets blown out of proportion! my friend was at our annual NHS auction dance and he texts me "hey, you should come up here so you can get used to your ND parties next year" lol ... they're all jealous!!! :) :) :)

dorm parties are awesome depending on the dorm. St. Ed's is one of the best dorms for partying b/c the guys are awesome and the rector is very reasonable.

St. Eds does have a great rector, I can second that! I am still fond of Fisher though, another good party location as long as you can get past the stench which comes with any guy's dorm (all the parties really are in the guys dorms).
