I'm not asking to compare parties to those of Harvard/Yale...I'm just asking how easy it is...
Let's say it's a tuesday night and my girlfriend breaks up with me or something dumb like that...I'm depressed. Is it guaranteed that anybody will be able to wander around campus on any night and easilly find a place to...you know..."party"?

Tuesday night probably isn't the best night for an example since Sunday through Wednesday nights aren't traditional party nights. The eating clubs are open (varyingly) those nights, and some nights (like Tuesday and to some degree Wednesday) are becoming popular. Thursday and Saturday are big party nights on campus, and you're sure to find something to do (whether it be going to an eating club, a room party, or a frat/soror party (aka a glorified room party)).

There are big suites on campus that have parties on varying days throughout the week, but since people usually have class from Monday through Thursday, there aren't nearly as many parties as on Thursday or Saturday. Friday's a nice day to hit up room parties, since most of the clubs don't have anything going on that day.

In any case, there's definitely a scene. And turning century-old mansions into playhouses throughout the week = hella fun

actually, some argue that the parties are better during the week rather than on the weekends, because the people who are there are all there because they want to party, not because thats what everybody does on a saturday night. thursdays and saturdays are packed on the street. during the week its much more low-key, but there are definitely parties to be found. the frats and sororities often have parties during the week.

Every night is popular. Many of the bicker clubs see packed evenings on Mondays/Tuesday/Wednesday. Many people go out to the street on these nights and the bicker clubs dont require passes. You wont be alone if you go out on a weekday.

sunday nights are the only nights where you might have problems finding a party, although I have definately been out on sunday nights.

Tuesday and wednesday nights are becoming really popular, with the bicker clubs open drawing large crowds. If your schedule allows it, its definately more fun to go out on a tuesday or wednesday because its not quite as packed, but still lots of people

Bicker clubs are the selective eating clubs. Most of the time you have to have passes to get in, but during the week they're more lenient about it.

Clendenenator, have you considered the University of Wisconsin-Madison? It sounds like it would be a good fit for you, given your stated interests.

I haven't....
I'm obviously interested in more than just these reasons, I just like knowing that the schools I'm interested in have nice opportunities.
I'll give UWM a look though. Thanks.

Yeah, as a Wisconsinite I can say that UW-Madison (not to be confused with "UWM", the Milwaukee campus) is a fantastic school both academically and party-wise (#1 party school in the nation). I almost went there but ended up choosing Princeton (since I don't care about parties anyway).
