Do the parties take away from the academic atmosphere at all? At a college like this I doubt that anybody can really just party the entire time and be real succesful, but I'd love to hear people's accounts of the party scene at this school all the same.

Work Hard, Party Hard - I think thats th best way to describe the school. I dont mind a party, as long as I've worked for the week, and I think thats exactly the attitude thats there in UW-Madison.

Seems pretty normal to me lol, thanks again for the information :D

Some people party Thurs.-Sat. and study all day Sunday. But don't worry, there are other things to do besides going clubbing and partying. Usually they have stuff going on at the Union like live bands or recent movies (good ones) playing for Fri and Sat nights.

I really need to visit so I can get a better idea I think, but the info you guys have posted is really helpful :)

oranda is right on the mark. It is easy for prospective students and visitors to assume clubbing/partying is the only social life in Madison. There are always many other cultural activities, potlucks (my favorite!), recreational sports, road trips etc to fill the weekends.
