Parties!!!!!!

If all is well I am to come to America to study my Law degree, I know it ain't all teachers and blackboards so can anyone gimme some tips to prepare for my first college party....like the ones you see on movies! If thats what they're like.I've never done that before and all Im used to is smart English discos held in social clubs!!

People prepare for college parties? Lol. Don't worry about it. Smile, socialize, drink, dance.

WOW!Someone actually parties on this site...I was beginning to think I was intruding on these academics.

Movies are for sheer entertainment, every once in a while you’ll learn something…other than that, if you can handle your liquor, you should fit right in

I'm a light weight!! :-( and being petite don't help!! after a pint I feel like I've consumed the Nile!

haha yay for partying. i don't know if american college parties are that different from english ones, but a few things off the top of my head.. don't leave your drink unattended obviously, or take drinks from strangers, but everyone knows that i hope.. oh yeah and at frat parties, don't ever drink the jungle juice.. its like whatever kinda alcohol they have left over mixed with tons of kool aid so you can't taste the alcohol, but it gets you drunk soo fast, and some of my friends in frats have admitted they put really really gross stuff in it just for a laugh.. other than that just don't get too carried away and enjoy college parties :) they're usually really fun

ummm, college parties (the ones in the movies) are pretty much centered around drinking. Some things to prepare:

learn how much alcohol you can take, dont pass out early the first time

learn some common drinking games so you can have fun, including beer pong, bet-your-liver, kings, power hour, etc. You can find that stuff online.

"pre-gaming" is a common practice to get drunk or buzzed before you even start to party.

Other than that, I guess the common things are be social, be fun, smile, and do something crazy while you're drunk so that you get invited to the party next time :)

if youre a lightweight that gets drunk easily, just watch what you drink - maybe just have one drink and slowly sip it throughout the night.. nobody will make fun of you for that or anything, plus you can still socialize with everyone else there.

Drinking games ay?sounds great!I'm still getting over the embarressment of kissing a tree on my last drunken night out....I wouldn't mind but my friends took a photo (yes i'm in hiding! :-/)

Always stay in groups, never ever get seperated from your group of friends or you will end up sleeping with a frat guy.

If you think the movies or GGW are what college parties are really like, you are in for a shock. Some parties on football Saturdays are even more crazy than that. Boobs being flashed all over the place, cars being flipped, couchs being burnt. It gets out of control sometimes.

Most of all, have fun. College is a great time, probably the best time of your life, and you will make many good friends.

if all you've done so far is kiss a tree while ur drunk, I'd say your're ahead of most people.

of course maybe that's cuz I consider throwing up all over the place bad, which it seems some people do not.

They're not really like what you see in movies, in my experience. Maybe I've been going to the wrong ones.

^ Same. It's just people socializing, drinking, having a good time. None of that hardcore stuff like you see in the movies (in most cases).

british chick, where are you going?

the parties could depend on the school too.

definitely

At my university, which is a medium sized public school, the professional and graduate students don't generally party with the undergrads. They seem to prefer to socialize casually with one another, going bar hopping or occasionally having their own little cocktails. A law student might feel out of place at the typical frat party.

I've been to parties like you see in movies.. but they weren't frat parties... a frat party is nothing like the parties in the mvoies ... the parties i go to are really great.. DJ's all night long in one area of the house, live bands playing in another area of the house.. hundreds of people THAT ALL KNOW EACH OTHER circulating throughout the house.. hot tub outside, swimming pool outside, etc.. of course you have people puking up here and there, or whatever.. but the people that have the parties are always great about everything, nobody's allowed to drive home drunk, they make sure of that.. they provide blankets and pillows and a place to sleep for anyone who can't drive home.. there's also like other areas of the house to just chill.. on multiple occasions i've just sat around with friends playing chess..

my friends just had a party this past weekend when school wasn't even in session (meaning most people weren't around) and over 150 people still showed up.

I'm not too sure but I should think any American party is a thousand times better than so-called parties over here. I take it quality drinking and havin' loadsa fun it on the agenda!!!I'm glad you said that everyone actually knows eachother at parties tho.I went clubbing last saturday and my intensions were gud of keeping a promise not to get legless but that went out the window.I had an few drinks more than usual and ended up sleeping on the bonnet of my mums car!....Yes.....the embarresment. You guys (under 21) must be way bummed that your not able to go clubbin!!I'm gonna miss this when I get come to college :'-(

Clubbin under 21 is possible…there’s Clubs w/16 & older nights

now the quality of the Club, that’s a whole different thing ;)

Whats the clublife like there?Over here its amazing its so eclectic....theres so many places to go especially if our in to all kinds of music. This is probably the only great thing in Britain and it certainly makes being young a whole lot funner (if this word exists!!)Any tips for me to organise a party here to liven things up a bit??
