As a freshman guy at Duke, what can I expect in the way of the party scene. After all, freshman live a little out of the way in the dorms. Where do the big parties take place? Are we "allowed" to attend? Are you supposed to bring your own alcohol or what? Also, as a host of a party, do people often rummage through your stuff or destroy your property?

you can probably get into any party that doesnt have letters out front (just a general rule of thumb)
byob is always a good plan but not always necessary
and if your hosting a party you can stop people from breaking/stealing your stuff by not letting completely random folks in and maybe hiding things that may "walk" away

"letters out front" ? huh

letters out front = frat

I don't think I can answer your question since I'm not personally involved in the party scene (by choice). With that said, I think you should post this on the Duke forum, where there are many current students who might be able to help you.

So are Duke frat parties closed then?

actually, as I understand it... since Duke has rush second semester freshies can get into a decent number of frat parties because they are trying to get pledges... could be wrong though.

according to my cousins boyfriend whos DTD they are... only for guys though

Frat parties at every campus are pretty closed to freshman guys. Freshman girls are very welcome though. Basically freshman year guys get shafted.

Don't go to any lacrosse team parties. lol.
