Party Scene at Lafayette???

Okay so I have completely fallen in love with Lafayette for many reasons. However I know the school has a reputation of being really boring and strict...

I like to work hard and play harder so this reputation worries me. But I love the college and the education it offers so I'm really torn. I know there will always be something going on but I heard it's usually really low key/school sponsored.

So in your opinion how is the party scene at lafayette?

heyhihello1,

I’m Taylor, a junior at Lafayette. Personally, I’m not too much into the party scene. In my opinion, the party scene is really whatever you make it. Some (such as myself) prefer not to get involved. However, there are plenty of parties for those who look for it. They are sponsored by fraternities/sororities, as well as by athletic teams/clubs. Yes, there are some school sponsored ones as well, but they do not comprise the majority of the parties.

Lafayette students are serious about their studies, but when the workload is lighter, there are plenty of opportunities on campus for partying. By no means is Lafayette boring, but the parties are not out of control (which is a very good thing). They are tame, but most people I know have a lot of fun at them.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

OP, what did you mean by “strict”?

My D (a soph.) has always said that people who want to party can always find parties around and that people who don’t like to party can always find other things to do and people to hang out with. It sounds like the social life at Lafayette is largely whatever you want it to be.

I (a current freshman) completely agree with happy1. On an average weekend night, there are at least five parties going on (pretty much all off campus but still on the hill). Furthermore, there are people who will have some of their hall neighbors in their room to drink and hang out. Even so, if you don’t want to be involved with any sort of substance, it’s not tough at all to have fun (plenty of events and enough people who don’t want to party either). Honestly, I would say Lafayette can be as much party as you want.

Just dropped off daughter for her freshman year at Lafayette on Friday and she went to her first party Saturday and had fun, so I guess it isn’t too boring there…
