So a fraternity is basically a group in college that’s hard to get into, and hosts parties and other gatherings every so often, right? Me and some friends (we know NOTHING about college life) visited U of M the other day and, in the middle of our tour, saw an abandoned looking house with its entire front yard being a volleyball court with some empty beer bottles on the floor. We were like “LOL, *** is that doing in the middle of Ann Arbor”. Now I realize it must be owned by a fraternity.

If it were on State St., then that was Shady (ADPhi). Phi Psi, SAE, and Theta Chi are the top fraternities. Alpha Phi and Tri-Delt are the top two sororities. If you aren’t sure if Greek life is for you, show up rush week, rush the heck outta’ different fraternities (not frats) and see if it’s for you. There’s more to Greek life than the parties (kinda…).

Fraternity=Brotherhood and Sorority=Sisterhood. Its like a gang of students that are active community members and volunteers. There are benefits in joining these groups because they have connections in the real world. These groups also have rigorous entrance requirements, unless you rush and don’t pledge(Signing a document). I might be mistaken, but I received a brochure about Greek life at Michigan. Usually Fraternities and Sororities host parties to recruit students, but for the most part its their way of having fun.

In order to get into certain parties, you must be a member of a sorority or fraternity, but that’s not all their about. They are about community activism, building relations and relationships with people, and experiencing commonality with other individuals.

Sororities can’t hold parties…

Oh, I never knew that. Is there a reason why?

So their houses don’t fall apart like most frats you’ll see. That’s why their houses are so nice. Although, Delta Chi has a nice house, but they’re dry so that doesn’t count. Pike has the worst house on campus.

I don’t really remember where the house was, but it might have been on state st. The name of the fraternity was written on the house, but it was really faded. It could have been alpha delta phi like you said, but I’m not sure. It just took us by surprise because it really didn’t fit in lol.

EDIT: I just looked it up online, and found out the house belongs to Alpha Delta Phi =]

Yea thats what I’ve heard to. Every time I ask my friends about the pledging process they always keep it secret. I’ve heard that people get used and other things that I won’t share lol. I hear it gets real bad at times.

I’ve been to parties every night since I got here. All the parties I’ve been to are divided into three groups: 1. people getting drinks 2. people playing beer pong 3. people dancing (mostly grinding). I love the third one. And the good thing is that you can just go up to most girls, put your hands around their waist, push your dickk against their assss and start grinding.

Number 1: I make it a habit of elbowing anyone who does that to me in the gut, so watch out. :P

Really? From my experiences, most girls are quite receptive to it. Of course, maybe because they’re too drunk/in the mood.

Most likely. Granted I don’t go to frat parties, however that behavior is prevalent anywhere there is dancing. When I go to the club I do not appreciate anyone touching me without permission besides the inevitable in a crowded room and find it particularly obnoxious when men feel it is acceptable to ram their erections into my back without me even being aware they were back there. It is not a pleasant surprise and makes you look like a total jerk to anyone who isn’t drunk.

That last post made me laugh. Twistedxkiss-are you a freshman? Number1-are the parties you’ve been to every night frat parties?

Michigan parties are epic. oh and everything is free too!

Long live welcome week :(

yea…so I tried to ask for cheese cube and couldnt find any

jrt, I am a junior transfer in my first semester. So technically I am not a freshman, but it is my first year at UM still. I’ve lived really close to Ann Arbor my whole life so the pre-class antics are not totally new to me, but I’ve never actually lived in town for it! I am curious to see if and how much it quiets down once classes get into full swing.

cheese “cub” please

youre gonna take a hit on your gpa if your not careful and join a frat.

you meet very often during the week.

as for party life… the welcome weeks are good, MAKE SURE if u want to get in a good frat, go to those houses during welcome week and meet the brothers.

the time from welcome week end > around halloween-ish, the parties are MOSTLY private, with mixers that are excluisve to frat brothers and soro sisters.
however there are some that are open.
ONCE again, there is a limit, you can be put on the list and get in right away. OR if your not in a frat… youd have to wait…
another thing is, its easier to get into open parties if your Greek (as in… in another frat) and u have a greek id.

umm what else… oh yeah… pledging is fun… for some.

advice: if you do pledge, make sure u stand out as someone with authority… or u will get *****ted on. which most likely means, you take the most harm AND youre probably going to get kicked out during the pledging process because your sole purpose there was to make everyone laugh

Yea I decided not to join a frat since I’m premed. The party scene isn’t as good as it was during welcome week, but then again that is expected. Necto and Studio 4 are pretty good places to party I must say.
