Party Scene at UCLA

I hear that the party scene at UCLA is strongly dominated by Greek life. Is this so? If you choose not to pledge, can you still have the same type of experience?

If you’re female, it’s easy - otherwise, you’ll have to most likely wait until you have friends living in the apartments to really get partying on. Some friends have rushed, then dropped before the dues had to be paid so they pretty much got a free quarter of fun, and knew a bunch of the guys so they could come back whenever.

about 15% of the student population is Greek. If you’re a girl, there’s no need to join a sorority unless you’re really into the whole sisterhood thing, because you can go to parties as you please anyway. It’s a little harder for guys.

I’m not sure what you mean by “same type of experience”…if you mean can you still party, the answer is yes; you just have to know people who are Greek and express interest in attending parties to them, and usually that works (though again, it’s a little harder for guys to get in sometimes). You won’t have the experience of living in a house or anything, but honestly Greek life is a BIG time commitment, so I wouldn’t do it unless you’re absolutely positive you’re doing it for the networking/entire experience, not just partying.

I also wouldn’t advise pledging after your first quarter, because a lot of people rush into it and then regret their decision or find out it’s not right for them. You can always “rush” just to see what it’s like, and then wait until spring or the next fall.

Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions! Best of luck!

the frats are really hard to get into if you don’t know the people there. There are some apartment parties, but a frat party is a totally different experience.

^^ really? For girls all you have to do is show up usually. For guys you do have to know someone, but there are a lot of people involved in Greek life, so it usually isn’t that hard.

show up and be reasonably good looking. Its great being a girl :)

don’t usually go to frat parties but i’m more of a kickback person - lots of apartment parties

Vc08 yeah for a girl its different.
