Just wondering what the party scene is like at WPI. Are there lots of parties on the weekends that you can go to or usually just a couple? Also, where are they usually held? I heard that you can’t party in A Term of your freshman year, is that true? And if it’s true, do people follow it?
WPI is not a “party school”, but it’s not a dry campus either. I’m not super familiar with this since I didn’t party too much at school.
There is a party scene. Many of the parties are associated with fraternities and sororities and you often need to be connected with the “clique” to get into the guest list of these parties, particularly if you are a guy. It is sort of silly (not to mention sexist), but I am not sure if it is much different elsewhere. From what I remember, there are usually a handful (maybe 3-4) larger parties and plenty of smaller house parties.
I’ve never heard this rule, but then I did not party or consume alcohol my first year of college. I don’t think this rule exists. In any case, each term is 7 weeks and the first seven weeks without partying doesn’t seem like a huge deal. It does seem wise to take some time to adjust socially and academically to WPI (at least waiting for your first semester grades, and seeing how your grades and learning – for which you and/or someone else is paying tuition – compare with your goals) before delving into the party scene.
I go to high school in Worcester. I have gone to a bunch of WPI, @frontpage is right. Most of the parties are associated with fraternities and sororities and yes you do need to be connected to get in the guest list of certain parties. Campus police usually controls the parties. There are a lot of smaller parties for certain clubs/organazations around campus.
