Party Scene at Yale College?

Hey! So I am very likely to apply EA to Yale, but I was hoping maybe some of you guys could provide insight on the social scene. Tbh I’m not really a party kind of person (I love to hang out with friends and maybe go out to a movie or restaurant etc).

I’m planning on joining some clubs if I am fortunate enough to get accepted so I can make friends (:

Would I have a hard time socially at Yale since I’m not into the whole party scene? Thanks so much and good luck to everyone!!! ((:

So I spent a year at Yale taking classes in the nondegree program so I can speak to the party scene at Yale University. Yale has somewhat of a party scene but it’s by no means a party school; the fraternity parties at Yale are uber cool in the beginning but get boring around sophomore year once everyone gets old enough to go to bars and do their own thing with friends. Now, I will say you have a lot of small niche groups at Yale, and surprisingly not all the students in undergrad necessarily really know each other. You have to remember you’re at a school with a demographic comprising the highest achieving students in the nation, often culled from private schools. That’s not to say Yale isn’t a blast, but if you want an insane undergraduate party experience you could get that all in one night at CalArts (which is what I did). Yale is definitely heaven on Earth at times but not really in the sense of the party scene it has to offer. The beauty of attending Yale is that it’s the Mount Everest of academia, the challenger deep of the collegiate experience if you will from which emanates immense social status, privilege, and respect.

Sophomore year – old enough to go to bars? Not legally for most.

The residential college system makes it easier for most kids to socialize, especially for kids that are not extremely extroverted socially. There clubs/activities that are residential college based and there are others that are university based. As long as you make some effort, you will find your tribe.

End of sophomore year* more so junior year
