anyone know what the party scene in isla vista during the summer is? My boy is moving there this week to go to sbcc and me and our other friend are taking a trip down there with him and staying there for a week. im just trying to find some info on how the party scene during the summer is. and trying to figure out if we should stay in goleta (closer to iv) or stay in sb on state street a couple miles from the beach and downtown. can someone help me out? thanks

It’s decent. Not as crazy as during the school year.

As a parent, you should be aware that there is a significant amount of alcohol consumption in Isla Vista. I don’t drink and I don’t have issues, but if that is something you think your son would have a problem with, then he should not live in IV. Goleta is the best place if you want him to avoid seedy elements. Even within the UCSB community, IV is considered a hub of immaturity. That said, it does have a charming feel to it and it is very close to campus. In any case, you should talk to your son about the issues regarding the location in which he will live.

You should also know that kids who go to SBCC are not well received in IV; UCSB people think they only come to SB so they can live in IV to party, which may or may not actually be the case for your son. If he does stay in IV, he should stay low (not mentioned he’s a CC student) and have fun.

o crap, my bad man. didnt proof read my stuff. by “my boy” i actually meant my good friend. lol sorry its the slang we use down here in the bay area. but yea Im only 19, no kids for me lol.
but really? ucsb dont really like sbcc people? haha damn, my friend is going to sbcc. i heard that they dont like out of towners there either, from what i heard. how do i blend in? you think it’ll be cool for me to party there at house’s/random ass parties? i thought the people there were generally pretty chill and laid back, but i guess thats only somewhat true if you a local? just want to make sure, i will still have a lot of fun even tho im an “out of towner”. im actually not staying directly in IV tho, im staying close the downtown SB. but i will be going to IV serval times, because my friend is moving into his new apartment there.

just go and telling him not to flout that he’s from CC and he’ll be fine. IV is kinda crazy and messy, but he likes that, then that’ll be a good place. downtown SB is much nicer and is much closer to everything (no more taking the bus downtown and taxi back) IMO.

people are chill during the day, but it’s pretty crazy at night. it’s very loud, a lot of activity…

Out of town stigma isn’t that bad. It’s easy to make blanket statements about entire populations, but you’ll find individuals care a lot less.
