I am incoming Creighton student and have a question about the schools drinking/partying scene. I am going into college with the mind set of not getting into the typical partying/ drinking scene. What is this school like. If I don't drink are their other students that also have the same mindset. Are there things on campus to do that don't always involve drinking? Thanks again!

I’m in the same boat cardsrock19…are you for sure going to creighton? let me know. what are your initials? maybe we could hang out haha im just not one for that sort of thing.

I know a lot of people who go out every night, and I also know a lot of people who don’t drink at all. My friends tend to be in the second group. Honestly I do most of the same stuff with my friends at college that I did in high school: board games, movie nights, going out to eat, to the mall, etc. the student union and inter residence hall govt are also really good at providing things to do that don’t involve drinking. Each hall hosts events you can go to, csu gives out tickets to movie screenings and concerts, etc. there’s plenty to do. Like most colleges, the party scene is there if you want it, but if you’re not interested it’s not a problem.

Anyone else have any valuable information? Thanks amwowoah. I sent you a PM!

I’ll be a sophomore this year and I can tell you this much. I never participated in the party scene though many of my friends did. Those of us who did not care much about drinking or partying found ways to still have fun both on and off campus. I can suggest that you take advantage of the free tickets they give out for movies and events.

Seeing as you will be a freshman, you probably won’t be getting out much the very first week of school since Welcome Week pretty much has your schedule full of activities. Don’t worry this is some peoples favorite week on campus because there are plenty of things to keep you busy like the dance, lip sync, and foam party just to name a few. There are also the weekly sporting events such as, mens and women’s soccer in the fall, and basketball season right after that. PLUS students get free into home games ALSO! (with student id)

The off campus entertainment can be seen just a few blocks from campus in Omaha’s “Old Market”. They have a ton of delicious resturaunt’s and little shops that can help kill a few hours. (Although it can be a bit pricy at times).

You can also get involved with organizations on campus. Many students are involved in more than 1 organization whether it be service or just a fun club. Can also help with meeting different people who might also not be into the drinking/partying.

Like amwowoah mentioned the halls do also hosts a couple gatherings throughout the year so you can always look forward to what ever your hall is hosting. By the time January gets here you should be feeling rather comfortable about Creighton, but if not then you can go through formal recruitment week to meet some more people and join either a fraternity or sorority. After this week you’ve decided yes or no to going through with it, there a overwhelming amount of partys hosted by the campus’ frats and sororities each weekend to give you more options instead of going and getting drunk. As of right now that is all I can think of.

PS Just get a brochure of things to do around Omaha.

PPS There isn’t much for a broke college student. Trust me I’ve lived here for 19 years. Thankfully Creighton has plenty to offer!
