Hi! I am transferring from my current school because it parties way too much and just got accepted to Grinnell. Can anyone shed some light on the party culture at Grinnell?
Is your current school Iowa State?
From what I hear, it’s there if you want it, not there if you don’t. However there is quite an amount of alcohol on campus. I wouldn’t explicitly call it a party school.
@1650mile it is not! It’s a LAC in the Midwest. Thank you for your comment, it really helps! Anyone that has experienced it?
I’m probably too late to this conversation, but from our experience, there’s a huge culture of drug and alcohol use at Grinnell. I had heard the rumors and hoped they were exaggerated, but unfortunately they were not. I can’t say more in a public forum. Google “Grinnell 10/10.”
Interestingly, they have just issued a campus-wide memo instituting changes in the alcohol policy. If you received it, I’m interested in your perspective on the changes, @MSMomOfOne.
@MSMomOfOne - just returned from dropping daughter at GSP. During the parent presentation the new alcohol policy came up - it is pretty clear that one of the drivers was that the lounges in the dorms were regular drinking places on weekend evenings, and that will no longer be permitted. Apparently non substance using students felt like the lounges were overtaken by drinking etc., and now they will be more comfortable for all students. Also it sounded like, though they didn’t mention it by name, the 10/10 party may be gone, and being replaced by something else campus wide. They said something along the line of a large campus party that was often a time of over-indulgence would no longer be happening.
Can anyone comment on how the change in alcohol policy actually went down? Did it end up making a difference? What is the party culture like today?
