Party School?

I was wondering…is UPenn a huge party school? I saw all of these videos on theU.com that made it look like every single person on campus gets wasted/stoned every weekend, and, I’ll be honest, I’m not exactly a wild “party person” (at least so far). Does this make Penn less of a match for me?

Also, I’d really like to know more about Penn’s dining and campus safety (which, I have to say, seem to have a really bad reputation). Thanks!

Nope, not everyone parties.

Dining is great, lots of places to eat on campus, freshman year, you are locked into a meal plan though. The cafeteria's, honestly are not as bad as people make them seem. Campus safety is campus safety, as long as you remember you're in a big city and don't do anything stupid, you'll be fine.

And by the way people aren't doing drugs in the theu.com videos, it's actually a hooka. And I do agree that the partying is totally overrated and the academic part of penn is vastly underrated and almost ignored. I think the video is too biased towards partying (I mean it's ggod we know there's a lot of fun things to do, but I don't think it's accurate) and all the girls appear to be slutty, which i also doubt

Being a party school is relative. Are we a party school compared to Penn State? Doubt it.

Are we a party school compared to Harvard or Columbia or Princeton? You bet.

I dunno if we're a party school, really. Certainly people party and go out, especially since we have the city at our disposal. I don't have any basis for comparison, though, so to me whatever the Penn norm is is The Norm. I've never gotten the impression it's a "huge party school," though. Certainly not all the girls are slutty (and even if they appear so, they probably still know everything there is to know about chemistry, or Dickens, etc.). It's certainly not quiet - but partying is certainly not a requirement. I do party somewhat now, because of my roommates and my boyfriend, but I do not really party at all last year, and I still certainly do not do so every week. But that's just me - there's tons of variety in the amount of partying people do here, from none at all to over-the-top, my-weekend-begins-on-wednesday kind of hooliganism. You do what you want, really.

"social ivy"
social yes, but I think the ivy part puts in more in perspective

hookahs are common at many college campuses...
